Dennis Curno of Holemoor, Bradford was recently awarded the Legion d’honneur medal in recognition of his contribution to the liberation of France in the Second World War.
His tank squadron landed in Normandy just a few days after D-Day and fought its way through Normandy, Belguim, Holland and the Reichwald Forest into Germany.
He never forgot this campaign and for a number of years returned to Normandy’s annual D-Day Commemorations.
